Historical Risk Assessment For Soybean Rust (SBR)

This project is funded by the USDA to provide a weather-based assessment of the soybean rust threat to North American soybean production areas. The work is funded by grants from CSREES, APHIS, and RMA. Scott Isard (PSU), Joe Russo (ZedX Inc), Glen Hartman (USDA ARS), Monte Miles (USDA ARS), Charles E. Main (NCSU), Thomas Keever (NCSU), Roger Magarey (USDA APHIS), and Annalisa Ariatti (Illinois) are key contributors to this project. Components of the ongoing work include:

- Demarcation of SBR source areas in North America, South America and Africa.
- Historical analysis of the aerial movement of SBR from Africa to South America.
- Analysis of the aerial movement of SBR from South America to North America in 2004.
- Spread of SBR in North America.
- Simulations of the impact of hurricanes on SBR spore movement in North America.
- Epidemiological studies of SBR

This web page provides information on geographic distributions of SBR and its hosts, reports on aerobiology transport model analyses, animations of model simulations, and links to a variety of other web sites with information on SBR.
